The iPhone 12 and 12 Pro have been available in some regions for just a few days and have been in very strong demand so far. In fact, Apple has contacted its supply chain partners and reportedly accelerated production of the iPhone 12 by as much as 2 million units.
The addition of an OLED screen combined with 5G and a new flat frame design seems to be enough to stimulate consumer interest. According to Cinda Securities, Apple expects demand for the iPhone 12 series to reach levels of 80-85 million units. Further estimates predict that it will ship 230 to 240 million in 2021, and if this is true, the iPhone 12 series will be positioned as the best-selling Apple phone in history. Current record holders are an estimated 222.4 million iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.
Well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo estimated pre-orders for the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro totaling 7-9 million units. He also predicted that the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro would account for 60-70% of the total shipment of the 12 series, while the 12 Pro Max and 12 mini would remain at the 15-20% level, respectively.
