The Redmi Note 9 series was previously unavailable in China, but the series arrives with great success. The price of the new Pro model is RMB 1,600, the same as last year, but the hardware difference is huge. It’s very affordable, but Xiaomi has announced the Redmi Note 9 for RMB 1,300 for 5G and RMB 1,000 for 4G.
Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G and Note 9 5G will be available in China starting December 1st. Let’s take a closer look soon, but first compare the phone with the previous one.
Old vs. New: Redmi Note 8 Pro vs. 9 Pro • Redmi Note 8 vs. 9
Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G
The title feature of Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G is enabled by the Snapdragon 750G chipset and its X52 modem (same as S765G). The storage is UFS 2.2, which, according to Xiaomi, is twice as fast as the UFS 2.1 used in previous generations.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G
The new model features a 6.67-inch screen with a resolution of 1080p and above and a refresh rate of 120Hz. This is an adaptive display that offers 6 different refresh rates from 30Hz to 120Hz. Touch sampling runs at 240Hz and boots. The front and back are protected by Gorilla Glass 5.
The camera is the main highlight of the phone. The main module is built around Samsung’s third 108MP sensor, the 1 / 1.52-inch ISOCELL HM2. Smaller than the HM1 (1/1.33 inch sensor) used in the S20 Ultra, but supporting the same 9-in-1 pixel binning technology, the first Xiaomi model with a 108MP camera was 4-in-1 binning Was supported.
The maximum effective pixel size is 2.1 µm (increased from 1.6 µm for the HMX sensor). Combining dual native ISO with the new night mode, the phone should offer outstanding image quality in the dark.
The quad-camera on the back also features an 8MP ultra-wide cam (120 °), a 2MP macro shooter, and a 2MP depth sensor. There is no telephoto cam, but the high-resolution main sensor can perform up to 3x lossless digital zoom. The selfie camera is equipped with a 16MP sensor.
The Pro model has a 4,820mAh battery. The 33W quick charger can charge the battery from 0% to 100% in just 58 minutes.
There are more than 11 antennas around the phone to ensure 5G signal, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth reception. Apart from 5G, the connection includes NFC and IR blaster. There is also a standard 3.5mm headphone jack and stereo speakers (and a Z-axis linear motor).
The Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G is a base 6 / 128GB model starting at 1,600 yuan. The two additional gigs of RAM are RMB 200 and the fully loaded 8 / 256GB model is RMB 2,000. The context is € 205-255, but it’s not clear when and when Pro 5G will hit the global market (and be aware that there will be additional taxes).
Redmi Note 9 5G
The Redmi Note 9 5G is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 800U chipset and has proven to be extremely competitive with Qualcomm’s 700 series. According to Xiaomi’s advertising material, the 800U is twice as fast as the Redmi Note 8 chipset. The storage is UFS 2.2, which is 100% faster than the storage of older phones.
The phone has a 6.53-inch LCD with 1080p or higher resolution and a standard refresh rate. When watching at night, the brightness can be reduced to only 1 nit, and it is TUV certified because it emits less blue light. Gorilla Glass 5 is the perfect protection for your display.
The main camera has a more discreet 48MP sensor (1/2 inch, 1.6µm pixels after 4-in-1 binning). You can still record 4K video. This is limited to 30fps (like Pro). The 8MP Ultra Wide (118 °) camera is combined with a 2MP macro camera. The selfie camera captures 13MP photos and 1080p video.
The charging speed has been returned to 18W, but the phone is powered by a slightly larger 5,000mAh battery (the retail package includes a 22.5W charger).
Like the Pro, this Note 9 version has both a 3.5mm headphone jack and stereo speakers, as well as a linear motor (to improve tactile feedback in the game). 360 ° antenna coverage is achieved by placing seven antennas around the device.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 5G
The Redmi Note 9 5G is a base 6 / 128GB model starting at 1,300 yuan. There is also an 8 / 128GB version of 200 yuan, and the top model with 8/256 GB memory is 1,700 yuan (166-217 euros).
Redmi Note 9 4G
The Redmi Note 94G will switch to the Snapdragon 662 chipset but will retain the 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage found in the 5G model. RAM starts at 4GB, which is the cheapest of the three.
Still, it has the largest battery, 6,000mAh, and weighs just under 200g. The phone comes bundled with an 18W quick charger. With proper use, the battery should last for more than two and a half days. Xiaomi estimates that the battery is suitable for 1,000 charge cycles or 4 years of use.
The 6.53 inch LCD is similar to that of the 5G model. It has a resolution of 1080p or higher and a touch sampling rate of 120Hz (refresh rate is 60Hz). However, this panel is protected by the old Gorilla Glass 3.
The same is true for the triple camera on the back, starting with the 48MP main module (1.6µm pixels after binning). There is also an 8MP ultra wide (120 °) camera and a 2MP depth sensor. Please note that the video recording limit is 1080p / 30fps. Also, the 8MP selfie camera is inside the notch, not the punched holes in the display.
Like the other two, this model features a 3.5mm headphone jack and stereo speakers. However, there is no NFC.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 4G
The Redmi Note 9 4G is a 4 / 128GB model starting at 1,000 yuan. The 6 / 128GB version is available for over 100 yuan and the top 8 / 128GB version is available for 1,300 yuan. Note that the triple card slot has a spot for microSD cards.
