The widely popular Snapdragon 675, announced in 2018, has a successor. Today, Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 678, which aims to provide better photography and connectivity in the midrange market without sacrificing battery durability.
The SD678 is built on the 11nm LLP process and is very similar to its predecessor, whose only change is the overclocked Cortex A76 core, which operates up to 2.2GHz compared to the SD 675’s 2.0Ghz. However, you can use the same Adreno 612 GPU. Qualcomm promises improved performance.
The rest of the specs match those of the SD675, including Qualcomm’s Spectra 250L ISP, Snapdragon X12 LTE modem, and Hexagon 685 DSP. The SD 678 supports a display with a resolution of up to 2520 x 1080 pixels, a phone with 10-bit color, and up to 48MP main and 16MP self-camera sensors that record 4K video at 30fps with the HEVC codec.
