The first of such “feature drops” is here for the second-gen Pixel Buds, as announced in a Google blog post, and they bring some substantial improvements. The Google Pixel Buds are getting “feature drops” that add a bevy of new features and improvements.

There is a major bug fix for users still suffering with persistent audio dropouts. The earbuds will receive seven new abilities, including new equaliser settings and an update to the language translation feature. The first of these improvements is that the new bass boost toggle can add a bit of extra oomph to music. And sharing detection, which detects if you’re sharing one earbud with someone and then lets you tweak the volume independently on each earbud. This way, you don’t have to sacrifice your volume preferences when you’re listening to music or watching a movie with someone else.

Pixel Buds users have been experiencing random audio cutouts for some time now. It mostly happens to those who keep their connected phones in their pockets while exercising outdoors. So if you’re rocking the Pixel Buds and have been waiting for audio cutout problems to be fixed, expect some relief around late August.

The first Pixel Buds feature drop will improve the following features:

  1. Improved connection stability during calls
  2. Better autorecovery when one or both earbuds lose connection
  3. Improved media playback stability for phones that have software audio encoding
  4. Fixed issue where one earbud fails to connect when removed from the case
