India has become an important market for all smartphone vendors and a major reason for this is the presence of more than 500 million smartphone users in the country. Companies including Samsung and Xiaomi have already invested a lot of resources in the country to meet the growing demands of Indian consumers. The expansion of user demand has also recently attracted Apple and its suppliers.
Earlier this month, Foxconn, the company’s main supplier for the iPhone and other Apple devices, reportedly planned to invest $ 1 billion (about Rs 7,491 crore) to expand its India plants. Pegatron – the second-largest iPhone assembler after Foxconn – is also planning to invest some money in the country and establish a local subsidiary in the coming future.
Apple began its domestic production in India in May 2017 with the iPhone SE. It started at the Bangalore unit of supplier Wistron. However, the Apple team later expanded its local manufacturing with Foxconn’s units in the country.
