In 2017, Apple announced the iPhone X as one of the biggest redesigns of its smartphone line. Four generations later, the iPhone 12 series has the same size notch, but according to the latest DigiTimes The next-generation iPhone will finally offer a small cutout, according to reports backed by supply chain insiders. The same information was confirmed in the previous report earlier this month.
Apple is expected to achieve a more compact design by putting the infrared camera and dot projector in a single module. In addition to the small notch, the next iPhone (designated as the iPhone 12S series) will be available in four models, like this year’s 12 series. Except for the slim notch, the 12S retains the same flat-edged design as the iPhone 12 model.
All 12S models are currently expected to be equipped with LiDAR scanners dedicated to the 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max. Another major addition proposed in the new report is the addition of sensor shift OIS (currently for iPhone 12 Pro Max only) to all new iPhone 12S models. The high-end 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch iPhones will also have larger lenses.
